Kevin A Pickering

The underlying themes behind Kevin’s work are the aesthetics of decay and degradation, and an exploration of the effects of
nature on man made objects. His work examines the changes to surfaces that result from the decaying process in its various forms. Weather, rust, heat and the passage of time produce textures and colours, which are both transient and ephemeral yet often stunning. As nature overcomes Man’s best efforts we often find true beauty.
Kevin describes himself as a Multi Media Artist/Printmaker, usually working in mixed media and textiles, mainly producing pieces which incorporate a variety of textile mediums and techniques including hand and machine embroidery, felt making, silk and hand made paper, bonding and layering. Often his work incorporates the use of found or recycled objects especially plastics and fabrics, which he transforms with heat. His main area of interest is texture and the manipulation of surfaces to produce work of a 3 dimensional nature.
Over the past few years he has expanded his interest to include printmaking. He finds that with this medium he can create more unusual, innovative and complex images than with traditional forms of mark making alone.  Kevin feels that print affords him another creative outlet, which not only contrasts but also compliments his textile pieces. He is a member the ‘Green Door Open Access Printmaking Studio and has his own web site.
