Helen absolutely loves working with textiles of all sorts. She studied for her City & Guilds Diploma in Design and Craft (Embroidery) at Derby College and took the City & Guilds course in Rug making at South Nottingham College. Now she has an outlet for her endless hanks of yarn that have come from her love of dyeing. She gets great pleasure from mixing the dyes and watching magic take place!
She is a member of two spinning groups, the Derbyshire Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers and the Sheep Wash Spinners, the latter being based at Carsington Water, as well as Ashbourne Embroiderers’ Guild which she describes as ‘a small but perfectly formed group of like minded textile people’.
With her husband Tom, Helen runs a small Bed and Breakfast which has a steady stream of loyal visitors throughout the summer. This still leaves plenty of time for spinning and stitching. Tom is an accomplished wood turner and is very long suffering when asked to make picture frames or tools needed for the craft on which Helen is working!
